Compare like for like
A price usually bundles a lens design, material, coating, fitting work and service terms. The brand name identifies only one part of that bundle. Even within one brand, different generations and versions may have different specifications. “Premium 1.67” therefore does not identify a complete product. A fair comparison starts with the same prescription, chosen frame and intended use, then separates each included item.
Ask each shop to itemise the lens brand, exact design, material or index, coatings and fitting service. A broad brand name leaves too much unspecified to compare two quotations.
Keep the order details
Our editorial checklist also asks about remake terms, delivery, fitting adjustments and what happens if the first result is uncomfortable. These are questions to ask locally, not a promise of universal warranty rights.
A worked example
Make two columns. Under each, write the exact design name, index and material, coating, quantity, fitting measurements, total price and adjustment/remake terms. Mark a missing item as “not stated” instead of assuming it is included. If one quote includes a fitting review and the other excludes it, ask the second provider to price that service before deciding. A written comparison is more useful than trying to turn a brand into a universal quality score.
CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDINGDo matching brand names and index numbers guarantee matching products?
No. Design, generation, coating and service can still differ.
